Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal data Anime-Bu (“we”) collects when you use the service at animebu.app, how we use it, who we share it with and the choices you have. We collect only what the service needs to work, and we do not sell personal data.

1. Data we collect

Account data. When you sign in with Discord or Google we receive and store your display name, email address and avatar from that provider, together with the provider's account identifier so we can recognise you next time.
Content you create. Shows you add, ratings, reviews, posts, replies, votes and reactions, your follows, and lists you import from AniList or MyAnimeList.
Relationships and settings. Your club membership, friend connections, notification and privacy preferences.
Auto-tracker extension. If you install the Premium browser extension, it reads the show title, season and episode number of what you play on the streaming sites you switch it on for, and how far the episode played. It sends only that, with your token, to this site to mark the episode watched. It reads nothing on other sites and keeps no history of its own.
Technical data. Standard server logs kept by our hosting provider, including IP address and browser type, used for security and troubleshooting. We do not run analytics or advertising trackers.

2. How we use it

To operate the service: showing your watchlist and ratings to the members you share them with, computing club standings and recommendations, sending the notifications you have enabled, and keeping the service secure. We do not use your data for advertising and we do not build profiles for third parties.

3. Who can see your data

Your profile, ratings and reviews are visible to members of your club and to your friends on the service. A private profile, available in Settings, limits them to your friends. Show pages show a club's average rating to visitors who are not signed in, without any personal detail. Your email address is never shown to other members.

4. Service providers

We rely on a small number of providers to run the service, each processing data only on our behalf: Vercel (hosting), Neon (database), Discord and Google (sign-in), and Stripe (payments for Premium, where Stripe holds your card and billing details under its own privacy policy; we keep only a customer reference and your plan). Show information and artwork are retrieved from AniList, IMDb and TMDB; requests to them carry no personal data about you. We do not sell or rent personal data to anyone.

5. Cookies

Anime-Bu uses a single session cookie to keep you signed in. It is strictly necessary for the service and contains no tracking. We set no advertising or analytics cookies, which is why no cookie banner is shown.

6. Retention and deletion

We keep your data for as long as your account exists. Deleting your account from Settings → Leaving removes your profile, content, connections and settings immediately; shows that only you had rated are removed from the club list with you. Residual copies may persist in backups for up to thirty days before they are overwritten.

7. Your rights

You can view and change your data at any time in the service, and delete it as described above. Depending on where you live you may also have rights to access, correct, port or restrict processing of your personal data, and to complain to a supervisory authority. Requests can be made through the feedback form in the site menu.

8. Email

We use your email address to recognise you across sign-in methods and, where you opt in, to send summaries of activity on the service. Every such email includes a way to turn it off. We do not send marketing email.

9. Changes

We may update this policy as the service develops. The current version is always published here with its date, and material changes will be announced within the service.
